Beginning Jewelry -- Spring, 2018

Participants in this beginning jewelry class will learn the basic techniques necessary to produce rings, pendants and other items in sterling silver, copper and brass. The goal is for each participant to create a finished piece by the end of every second class.

Time: 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Cost: $185.00, which includes all materials.

Registration will begin on the following dates and will remain open until the class fills or three working days before the class starts, whichever comes first: 

  • FALL SESSION: August 10 at noon
  • SPRING SESSION: December 1 at noon
  • SUMMER SESSION: May 1 at noon

PLEASE NOTE: You may cancel a craft class up to two weeks before the class begins, with a $30 cancellation fee assessed. No refunds are allowed within two weeks of the start date, nor after the class begins.


This class is intentionally co-taught, and each instructor brings different areas of expertise that benefit your learning experience. One or both instructors will be present on any given night, and their teaching schedules are subject to change.

Jim Rice has been making and selling jewelry since 1999. He has been teaching Beginning and Intermediate Jewelry since 2001.His jewelry is available locally at Shoppes at Farmers Hardware and he is a member artist in Main Street Gallery in Blowing Rock, N.C., and at 20 regional art and craft shows each year.

Judy Goodwin has been making jewelry for the past twelve years. She has been a teaching assistant and substitute instructor for the past several years as her skill level in a variety of metalsmithing techniques continues to expand. Her work can be seen at numerous local art and craft shows and festivals as well as some local venues under the Silver and Stones Jewelry banner.

PLEASE NOTE: Most classes meet over multiple weeks. Registration for each class is open until the class fills or until three working days before the class begins, whichever comes first. If you miss the registration for this semester we hope you will consider taking this class the next time it is offered.
