Claire began studying ceramics in 2008 at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia, and continued her studies through the Appalachian State University Craft Enrichment program and programs offered by NC State and the City of Raleigh. She is a member of Hands Gallery in Boone.
Claire sees the clay as a canvas, using a combination of glazes and underglazes to create paintings on the surface of the clay. You will see the personification of the thrown form in many of her works, creating both human and animal characters. Claire uses bold, bright colors intended to create a spirit of joy and whimsy in her work. When she’s not throwing pots, you can find her cycling through the high country with her husband on their tandem road bike.
