Introduction to Beekeeping - Spring 2020

Students will receive instruction on how to become a beekeeper in the High Country.  Topics will include honeybee anatomy, hive construction and placement, types of honeybees, beekeeping tools, how to obtain and install bees, pests and diseases, hive management, and honey production.  Students will have an opportunity to visit an apiary during Spring, 2020.

Doug Galloway has been a beekeeper for 9 years, is a member of the Watauga, Ashe, Wilkes and Caldwell bee clubs, the North Carolina State Beekeeping Association and the Eastern Apiculture Society. Doug has taught beekeeping or presented beekeeping subjects at Caldwell Community College, the ASU Craft Enrichment class, the NCSBA 2017 Summer Meeting, many local bee clubs and other area organizations and schools. He was recognized as an NCSBA Master Beekeeper in 2016 and as a Master Craftsman Beekeeper by the NCSBA in 2019.
