Ceramic Surface Design

Instructor:

This class is for the beginning student who is interested in exploring the process of working with clay. Students will have the opportunity to learn several hand building techniques and apply surface design to these forms. Glazing techniques will also be explored. Students will be encouraged to experiment with different materials and techniques to develop a personal artistic style.  Each class will focus on a specific surface design technique.  Students will be expected to prepare leather hard or bisque pieces, as needed, to participate in the project presented in class.  An outline of class projects, including additional materials needed, will be provided in advance.  Class will include limited wheel throwing instruction.  This course is best suited for students with underlying ceramic experience sufficient to create forms for decorating.

Craft Enrichment pottery classes draw on the individual technical and aesthetic interests of each instructor. Through group instruction, hands-on experiences and individual help, both beginning and advanced ceramics students will expand their knowledge of pottery design. A variety of clays and glazes are available for Cone 6 oxidation firing.
