Ceramic Surface Design

Instructor:

This class will explore a variety of surface design techniques, including using slips, underglazes and stains and incorporating texture into the clay. Students will be encouraged to experiment with different materials and techniques to develop a personal artistic style.  Each class will focus on a specific surface design technique.  Students will be expected to prepare leather hard or bisqued pieces, as needed, to participate in the project presented in class.  Students may need to bring additional materials to class such as underglazes and stains.  An outline of class projects, including additional materials needed, will be provided in advance.  Class will include limited wheel throwing or hand building instruction.  This course is best suited for students with underlying ceramic experience sufficient to create forms for decorating.

Craft Enrichment pottery classes draw on the individual technical and aesthetic interests of each instructor. Through group instruction, hands-on experiences and individual help, both beginning and advanced ceramics students will expand their knowledge of pottery design. A variety of clays and glazes are available for Cone 6 oxidation firing.
