Watercolor - Painting Nature Close-Ups in Watercolor

Description

If you are been drawn to the patterns created by nature, this class is for you.  We will work on a close-up painting of subjects and textures found in the forest or the garden--think of fallen leaves, twisted tree trunks, beach rock piles, fruit or blossoms on a branch, butterflies on flowers. The goal is to use negative painting techniques to illustrate these subjects, and to explore color and composition.  We will also use some non-brush tricks to add texture to your paintings.

Course Format

Online, featuring a mix of 5 recorded demonstration sessions and 5 live online critiques of students’ work.   The 2-hour recorded sessions will feature a demonstration of negative painting, pouring, and other techniques you can use to paint colorful and textured natural elements. During the week following the demonstration you will be able to replay the session as you paint similar subjects using images from your own photos, or the demonstration painting.  You will then send images of your work(s) to the instructor via email.  JoAnn will review the work in a weekly live critique.  The first class is a live session devoted to questions about supplies and equipment.
