Joan Brook is five years new to NC but not new to the world of food and food stories, cooking at home and writing as a hobby since her children were small. But Joan’s path as a “foodologist” really began in earnest during Covid, when her love of local food and food culture inspired her to expand her collections of recipes and cookbooks beyond simply, “what’s for dinner,” to tracing the origins of her family’s roots through their celebrations and traditional food recipes.
Prior to food studies, Joan was an English/Language Arts Reading and Special Education teacher, spanning a career of over two decades from K-8th grade and here at ASU, designing curriculum to incorporate multimedia production and biological inquiry for children and adults.
A Blog is in the works, “A Place at the Table,” enriched by Joan’s award-winning photography, showcased at numerous group gallery shows across the country since 2017.
