Making Better Pots

Sooner or later, every potter realizes that learning the techniques involved in making pots is not the only thing you need to know to make a great pot. In this class we won't be in the studio learning to make pots, we'll be online learning how to look at them - so that when we can all get back to the studio, we'll return with an improved sense of what makes a pot great.

In each 2 hour class (Live zoom meeting), we'll cover a different attribute that makes a handmade pot great – shape, structural theme, proportions, surface decoration, rims, feet, appendages, meaning.... We'll start with a short slide show of great historic and contemporary pottery, and then use what we've learned in the slideshow to talk about other pots - it will change how you see your own pots, and therefore, the pots you make!

No materials or tools are needed – just a willingness to entertain new ideas.
