Intermediate Pottery - Eric and Claire

Description

This eight-week class is open to students who have completed at least two Craft Enrichment Beginning Pottery classes or at least 16 weeks in an equivalent program. Instruction will focus predominantly on wheel throwing techniques. Students should feel comfortable centering clay and pulling the walls of a cylinder. Class will focus on refining throwing skills and learning techniques to throw bigger and taller pots and shape bowls, vases and other vessels. Students should be prepared to identify projects and skills they would like to work on during the course. The class will include an overview of advanced surface design techniques, including slip and underglaze applications and sgraffito, with opportunities to apply the techniques to work created during the course. A variety of clays, glazes, slips and underglazes will be available for Cone 6 oxidation firing.

Supplies

Each registered student will receive 1 (25lb) bag of clay and pottery tools to use during the course. Additional clay can be purchased through our website. Students can bring their own pottery tools that would include a Wire Clay Cutter, a Sponge, a Steel Scraper, a Potter's Rib, a Loop Tool, a Needle Tool, and a Boxwood Modeling Tool. The university recently changed their parking restrictions. Therefore if you do not have a current parking permit with App State, you will need to add the parking pass ($10/month) upon checkout and registration. Failure to add the parking permit can result in university tickets and fines.

***All in person course registration is limited to maintain proper social distancing. All participants will be required to follow Appalachian State's "Return to Campus" protocols. In the event that Appalachian State University classes move fully online, all in person Craft Enrichment courses will be cancelled and participants will be provided a prorated refund.

PLEASE NOTE: Most classes meet over multiple weeks. Registration for each class is open until the class fills or until 2 days before the class begins, whichever comes first. If you miss the registration for this session we hope you will consider taking this class the next time it is offered. Cancellation Policy: You may cancel a craft class up to two weeks before the class begins, with a $30 cancellation fee assessed. No refunds are allowed within two weeks of the start date, nor after the class begins.
