Intermediate/Advanced Felting - Fall, 2017

Wet Felted Hat with Hatband/Decoration

You will have a choice of making a beret, rolled brim or folded brim hat.  These hats are made by encasing a flat foam resist in layers of wool, wetting, rubbing, rolling, squeezing and shaping.

We will begin by taking measurements to get a good fit, making a pattern and cutting a foam resist.   You will need to bring a form of some type for your hat to finish drying on after it is shaped, a bowl or ball or it can be stuffed with plastic bags.  Hat can be embellished on the inside and outside with silk hankies, silk roving, yarns.

Materials and tools provided.  Making large pieces of felt are time consuming and strenuous so come prepared to work.   Wear comfortable shoes, working standing at tables waist height is tiring on feet but easier on backs.  Bring a few bath towels and an apron if wanted and a form for drying your hat.
