Beginning Spinning on the Wheel



Over the course of 3 weeks, students will learn the parts of the spinning wheel along with drafting the fiber, and spinning the fiber on the the bobbin of the wheel.  They will spin two bobbins, learn to ply the yarn and measure the spun yarn onto a niddy noddy.  The first and last class will run 3 hours, and the middle class will be 2 hours.

Equipment and Materials

Students are provided a spinning wheel (if you have your own we can provide a $25 discount, email to secure your seat), all small tools are provided, and 1/2 pound of fiber for spinning is included.

After 5:00 parking is free in the open lots. Turn into the Peacock Lot and turn right toward the Appal Cart Bus station and Octagon Building (park in the surface lot, under the Octagon is restricted). Enter via the front door near the middle of the building facing Rivers St  Go left to the end of the hall way where you will see the stairs and elevator. Proceed to the 3rd floor. Go through double doors and look for room 315.

All participants will be required to follow Appalachian State's "Return to Campus" protocols which includes always wearing a mask while indoors. In the event that Appalachian State University classes move fully online, all in person Craft Enrichment courses will be cancelled and participants will be provided a prorated refund.

PLEASE NOTE: Most classes meet over multiple weeks. Registration for each class is open until the class fills or until 2 days before the class begins, whichever comes first. If you miss the registration for this session we hope you will consider taking this class the next time it is offered. Cancellation Policy: You may cancel a craft class up to two weeks before the class begins, with a $30 cancellation fee assessed. No refunds are allowed within two weeks of the start date, nor after the class begins.
