Intermediate Pottery - Surface Design

Description

Description

This eight week class is open to students who have completed at least two Craft Enrichment Beginning Pottery classes or at least 16 weeks in an equivalent program and have skills to make pots either by throwing or hand building

This class will explore surface techniques using slips and underglazes on leather hard clay. The first class will be an overview of various techniques including monoprinting, carving and use of stencils. We’ll also go over a detailed materials list. The following classes will begin with specific instructions for different applications

Craft Enrichment pottery classes draw on the individual technical and aesthetic interests of each instructor. Through group instruction, hands-on experiences and individual help, both beginning and advanced ceramics students will expand their knowledge of throwing on the potter's wheel, hand building, surface decoration, glaze application, and pottery design. A variety of clays and glazes are available for Cone 6 oxidation firing.

Supplies

Each registered student will receive 1 (25lb) bag of clay. Additional clay can be purchased through our website.  Students are expected to bring their own pottery tools that would include a Wire Clay Cutter, a Sponge, a Steel Scraper, a Potter's Rib, a Loop Tool, a Needle Tool, and a Boxwood Modeling Tool. A short list is below with links:

Additional Materials List

  • Underglazes
  • Mason Stains
  • A variety of brushes and other relevant supplies

*A detailed list will go out to students after registration. This list will be a suggestion and each person can decide during the first class which techniques they’d like to explore and make purchases after that.
