Description
This class is intended for Advanced students who have taken five or more Craft Enrichment Pottery classes (or equivalent) before and want to continue their development. Students should be able to throw all basic forms and be familiar with trimming and glazing. Students will continue to explore and develop their own personal style.
The following skills will be presented: Planning, designing, and constructing a teapot, Making lids and spouts, Combining thrown and/or hand built parts to achieve larger forms for functional and sculptural work. Finally, we will discuss advanced decorative techniques including the use of underglazes, stencils, transfers, decals, slip trailing, and sgrafitto.
Craft Enrichment pottery classes draw on the individual technical and aesthetic interests of each instructor. Through group instruction, hands-on experiences and individual help, both beginning and advanced ceramics students will expand their knowledge of throwing on the potter's wheel, hand building, surface decoration, glaze application, and pottery design. A variety of clays and glazes are available for Cone 6 oxidation firing.
Supplies
Each registered student will receive 1 (25lb) bag of clay. Additional clay can be purchased through our website. Students are expected to bring their own pottery tools that would include a Wire Clay Cutter, a Sponge, a Steel Scraper, a Potter's Rib, a Loop Tool, a Needle Tool, and a Boxwood Modeling Tool. Katherine Harper Hall Room 55. Open Lab unless another course is scheduled.
After 5:00 parking is free in the open lots. The building is opposite the Steam Plant and next to the John Thomas building and Rivers Street Parking Deck.
